Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets

Bangladesh posted 246 with a brisk 168-runs stand between Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad at Blacktown Olympic Park Oval on Monday.

Sohaib Maqsood (93 not out off 90 balls) guided Pakistan to the winning target with three wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Rubel Hossain and Mashrafe bin Mortaza struck early polishing openers Ahmed Shehzad (5) and Sarfraz Ahmed (1).

Akmal (39) along with Maqsood added 63 runs for the fifth wicket before perishing to Mashrafe bin Mortaza.

Taskin Ahmed sent Younis Khan (25) packing before Haris Sohail (39) walked back off Mahmudullah. Sohail and Maqsood came together for a 51-run fourth wicket partnership.

Young Taskin took out Misbah-ul-Haq for his second scalp before Shakib Al Hasan bagged his first sending back Shahid Afridi.

By then Pakistan were close to the shore as Maqsood led his team to the win. He laced his 93 with nine boundaries and two sixes.

Earlier, a batting collapse towards the end of the Bangladesh innings restricted Bangladesh to 246.

Bangladesh lost their last five wickets for 15 runs.

The collapse closed down a solid foundation laid by opener Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad, who added 168 runs for the third wicket partnership after their side were off to a poor start losing Anamul Haque and Mominul Haque right at the start.

After losing Riyad (83), Tamim (81) and Mushfiqur Rahim in consecutive overs, Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar added another 41 runs for the sixth wicket.

Sarkar's (15) dismissal by Wahab Riaz in the last ball of the 47th over started the collapse.

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Irfan ran through the Bangladesh lower order on his own after bagging the scalp of Shakib (31).

Irfan was pick of the Pakistan bowlers with 5 for 52. Yasir Shah bagged two wickets.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat.

Bangladesh will play against Ireland in another warmup match on Thursday before taking on Afghanistan in their first World Cup fixture on Feb 18.       (abd71)
