Cricket World Cup 2015: New Zealand beat Afghanistan

New Zealand made it five wins from five at the World Cup as a six-wicket win in Napier eliminated Afghanistan from quarter-final contention.
Veteran spinner Daniel Vettori (4-18) reduced Afghanistan to 59-6 before Samiullah Shenwari (54) and Najibullah Zadran (56) helped them to 186 all out.
Black Caps skipper Brendon McCullum then hit a rapid 42 from 19 balls.
Martin Guptill made 57 as the Kiwis, already in the quarter-finals, cruised home with 13.5 overs to spare.
McCullum powered two boundaries in the first over of New Zealand's reply and by the time his entertaining cameo was ended when he edged Mohammad Nabi onto his stumps via his pads, they were 53-1 in the sixth over and on course for victory.
It looked as though the co-hosts would face a much smaller target thanks to Vettori, who was introduced as early as the third over to allow the opening bowlers to change ends and knocked over teenager Usman Ghani's off stump with his first ball.
After seamer Trent Boult accounted for Javed Ahmadi and Asghar Stanikzai, Vettori returned for a second spell to bowl Nawroz Man
Vettori then struck twice in successive deliveries to have captain Nabi caught at slip and trap Afsar Zazai lbw first ball, at which point he had four wickets for five runs.
"The guys bowled really well and obviously Dan was the stand-out performer," said McCullum.
"He is a special cricketer for what he has achieved in all three formats of the game over two decades. To see him achieve another milestone is fantastic."
With the co-hosts firmly on top, almost their entire team were crouched around the bat for the hat-trick ball, which was safely negotiated by Najibullah.
While Shenwari dropped anchor, Najibullah took the attack to the seamers at a sweltering McLean Park before eventually slicing Adam Milne to Vettori at third man.
gal (27) for the 36-year-old's 300th one-day international wicket.
Shenwari, who needed treatment after being struck on the helmet by a Corey Anderson bouncer, shepherded the tail to reach his second half-century of the World Cup, while some lusty blows from Hamid Hassan helped add 20 for the last wicket.
While the Shenwari-Najibullah stand of 86 restored respectability to Afghanistan - who could point to having exceeded both England's and Australia's scores against New Zealand - the result never looked in doubt.
It appeared as though Guptill would see the Kiwis to victory before a mid-pitch hesitation saw him run out with 44 still needed.
McCullum added: "Credit to Afghanistan for the way they fought back and posted a score which was a bit tricky for us. But it is another World Cup win and we're pretty happy at the moment."

Victorious Vettori

Daniel Vettori now has 302 ODI wickets - 294 for New Zealand, and eight for the ICC World XI against an Asia XI and Australia in 2005
Vettori's economy rate (3.00) is easily the lowest of anyone who has bowled 10 or more overs at the tournament - the next best is injured Afghanistan seamer Merwais Ashraf (3.66)

Bangladesh celebrate 'best' victory

Bangladesh held a double celebration Thursday, beating Scotland with their "best" run chase and closing in on a World Cup quarter-final berth.
Their 322-4 to overhaul Scotland's 318-8 with 11 balls to spare was the second highest successful run chase in World Cup history behind Ireland's 329 to beat England in 2011.
The win kept Bangladesh in the top four in Pool A along with New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Australia and they need to beat either England or New Zealand in their final two matches to be guaranteed a berth in the quarter-finals.

Opener Tamim Iqbal, who scored 95 off 100 deliveries to lead the run chase against Scotland, said their plan was to shut out thoughts of trying to overhaul a 300-plus total.
"The coach said that we should bat like we're batting first and not to think about the total. We chased down a similar kind of score two or three years back against Zimbabwe and we batted in a similar way," Tamim said.
"So rather than thinking about the scoreboard, we were just enjoying the wicket. The wicket was fantastic and the outfield was really quick."
Captain Mashrafe Mortaza said the performance was better than when they scored more than 300 against Zimbabwe "because in the World Cup there is always pressure. So I think that is the best one".
Bangladesh, facing a gruelling travel schedule after playing Sri Lanka in Melbourne a week ago now head back to Australia to play England in Adelaide on Monday before returning to New Zealand to play the tournament co-hosts four days later in Hamilton.
Against Scotland, Bangladesh used left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan with the new ball, in the middle of the innings and at the death to produce the tidy figures of one for 46 off his 10 overs
Mortaza said they would wait to see the Adelaide wicket before deciding how many of their key spinners to include in their side to play England.
There would also be no immediate decision on opener Anamul Haque who suffered a serious shoulder strain diving to cut off a boundary against Scotland.
He took no part in Bangladesh's run chase and a team spokesman said they had been in consultation with doctors and could not immediately say how long it might take for him to recover.

History for Afghanistan, heartbreak for Scotland

Afghanistan's finish a great advertisement for the World Cup
For the second time in two days the Associate head-to-head produced a magnificently compelling contest, a finish filled with tension and drama as Afghanistan's last-wicket pair hauled them to a famous one-wicket victory in Dunedin following an epic innings by Samiullah Shenwari.
When Shenwari, who had been dropped on 20 at slip by Majid Haq, hammered three sixes off Haq's last over he appeared to be guiding his side to the win but attempting a fourth he picked out deep midwicket. For a moment time stood still (and not because of the speed of Haq's bowling) as there was uncertainty over whether Scotland had the correct number of fielders inside the circle, but the umpires were satisfied.
It meant Hamid Hassan, who had provided priceless support for Shenwari in the ninth-wicket stand of 60, and Shapoor Zadran were left needing 19 off 19 balls. Every delivery was a minor epic. Ultimately it was Shapoor who found the runs that will forever he etched in Afghanistan history by securing a maiden World Cup victory: a boundary off the final ball of the 49th over, then the winning hit, with a whip off his hip, against Iain Wardlaw the ball after he could have been run out if Scotland had found a direct hit.
Afghanistan seemingly had no chance when they slumped to 97 for 7. The slide was sparked by Richie Berrington's medium pace and involved a collapse of 5 for 12 after Javed Ahmadi had struck a brisk half-century. But Shenwari was magnificent in his calmness and assessment of the situation, firstly with Dawlat Zadran for company as the pair began to chip away at the target with an eighth-wicket stand of 35.
Shenwari's reaction when Dawlat slogged to mid-off encapsulated Afghanistan's emotions as he showed his disgust well before the fielder had taken the catch then stayed on his haunches. Hassan, though, rarely moved away from the block or the push as he heeded to Shenwari's instructions as he opted for a mixture of farming the strike and trusting his partner.
When Shenwari struck his first six, and the first of the match, in the 39th over it felt like nothing more than late defiance but his second, the first of four against Haq, brought the runs required to 50 and Afghanistan started to believe.
It was an understandable gamble by Preston Mommsen to leave Haq so deep into the innings - having stacked the earlier overs with seam when Afghanistan collapsed - and it probably helped Shenwari that he had little choice but to take on his final over with the requirement having stretched to 38 off 24 balls.
When Scotland had been well in control an hour earlier, their coach Grant Bradburn was interviewed by the host broadcaster and naturally wore the expression of a man confident of victory. When the game finished there were grim looks in the Scotland camp as they faced the prospect of another winless World Cup campaign.
At one stage, when Afghanistan were 85 for 2 after 18 overs, the chase was far more under control. It had been steadied by Ahmadi and Shenwari following two wickets in an over for Alasdair Evans who had earlier been involved in Scotland's own lower fightback with Haq.
But Ahmadi threw his wicket away when he picked out mid-on then Josh Davey removed Mohammad Nabi lbw as the innings started to wobble, although it was a stump-grazer upheld by DRS. Berrington's wicket-to-wicket nibblers continued to cause all sorts of problems; Afsar Zazai played around a straight ball and Najibullah Zadran flashed to slip.
Haq was the fielder again when Gulbadin Naib fended into the cordon and his earlier fluff in the slips was quickly being forgotten until Shenwari started to turn the game on its head.
In the field, Afghanistan had been on top for long periods until Scotland pushed themselves over 200 for the first time in World Cups. Making use of early movement, they reduced Scotland to 40 for 3 and then surged again later in the innings, claiming 5 for 51 to leave them tottering on 144 for 8.
Alongside the damage caused by the three main three quicks, Nabi and the recalled Naib claimed a valuable wicket apiece, while the 30 overs between Dawlat, Shapoor and Hassan cost just 99 runs.
Scotland's batting again suffered from failing to convert starts into something more substantial. Four of top six fell between 23 and 31, but unlike against New Zealand and England they were able to make up some ground against their fellow Associate.
Dawlat struck first ball against Sri Lanka and only needed six deliveries this time when Calum MacLeod slashed to point. He and Shapoor shared seven wickets while Hamid chipped in with the scalp of Hamish Gardiner after a terrific working over which included three consecutive throaty appeals.
Scotland lost their way a second time against the change bowlers as Matt Machan gave himself too much room facing Nabi and Mommsen edged a good delivery from Naib. Shapoor then fired up, extracting Matthew Cross from round the wicket as Zazai plucked out a terrific catch to his right then Davey drove to mid-off with 17 overs of the innings still remaining.
When Berrington became Dawlat's third it seemed unlikely Scotland would be able to see out their innings, but Haq and Evans played sensibly in a Scottish record ninth-wicket stand. The expectation was that they had done enough to make the second innings a fascinating contest. No one could quite have imagined how it would unfold

15 Shockingly Sexy Moments in Sports

Sporting events can have the most unpredictable outcomes. Anything can go wrong, right or just get down right weird. We’ve all had sports moments that are going to stick in our memories for a long time. Some of these moments were great plays like buzzer beater shot or touchdowns scored with little to no time on the clock.  Other great and mind blowing sports moment sometimes don’t happen on the field or court. They may not even happen directly to the players. Some of these moments can be described as sexy Lolo Jones gets Curves for Winter Olympics Lolo Jones is one of the sexiest female athletes in the world. She is a track star who specializes n the 60 and 100 meter hurdles. In 2008 she made it to the Bejing Olympics and was a favorite to win the 100 m hurdles. She did not place and in the 2012 London Olypmics the same outcome occured. It wasn’t until Jones was convinced to take up bobsleding that she would get a gold medal. She also picked up a few pounds and got curves. Adding on weight never looked so sexyand we surely don’t want to look over those moments.

Barcelona's £450m strike force show how far behind Man City remain

Manchester City set-up, however grand their aims, the stomach is bound to churn at the sight of a £450 million attacking prong in shirts as luminous as their talents. All teams enter the Casino de Barcelona when Lionel Messi and company come to town.
However fancy the
City’s second-half fightback could not conceal Barcelona’s first-half superiority, Messi’s majesty or the likelihood that Manuel Pellegrini’s men will advance no further than this round of 16. Pellegrini was adamant that 4-4-2 was the right weapon against football’s most illustrious trio. His results against them – three consecutive defeats – suggest otherwise.
Luis Suárez is the third biggest name in the Barcelona forward triumvirate but he was the first on to the scoresheet with an obligatory goal against Joe Hart. Where have we seen that before? In São Paulo, where he returned from a month out with a knee injury to end England's World Cup. To extend that symmetry, Suárez put a second one beyond the England goalkeeper on 29 minutes after Messi had flashed across the City penalty area and guided the ball to Jordi Alba to cross.
City 0 Suárez 2, with less than half an hour gone. And this after three successive errors from the Premier League’s best player in 2013-14 had raised doubts about his form. Even Suárez looked exasperated. But help was at hand, from Vincent Kompany, who made a mess of a Messi chip into the box, which then fell to Suárez to slam past Hart.
With Sergio Agüero fit in City colours, and David Silva present, this was surely the most star-studded game to be played on this turf. But there was no mistaking the imbalance in Barcelona’s favour. Their front line is almost gaudy – or Gaudí – and would have no place for Edin Dzeko, who started alongside Agüero in a high-risk City XI.
The key to the game, every pundit said, was whether City's deployment two strikers would concede midfield superiority to Luis Enrique’s team. With Messi dropping deep to shape the attacks, we soon had our answer, as Fernando and James Milner laboured to stop Barcelona’s greased moves through the middle. On City’s right, Alba was a constant menace.
The Barcelona trident have been responsible for 70 goals this season: 37 of them from Messi, who missed a penalty in added time (his fifth miss in 10 games for club and country). Whatever the truth about friction between him and the manager (the little megastar was rested against Real Sociedad, against his wishes), or a casino trip the night before the flight to Manchester, Messi asserted his ball-carrying brilliance without difficulty here.
As Liverpool found when Ronaldo visited Anfield, the greatest players can make fine players look feeble, good teams turn grey. You could see Messi fancying the way City were set up. It offered him avenues to run down, runs to pick out, bursts of magic to inflict. And none of us can know how it feels to play in a forward line where there are two other world-class players to complete the job if necessary.
There they were: numbers nine, 10 and 11, all in fluorescent shirts. The high-rollers. At a conservative estimate it would cost £450 million to buy all three: Messi, Neymar and Suárez, who should have known he would be third, at best, on the Barcelona VIP list. Fourth if you count Andrés Iniesta. Or Xavi, or Gerard Piqué. The best card he holds, though, is that he is a natural centre-forward, unlike Messi or Neymar, and can go bump for bump with the likes of Kompany and Martin Demichelis.
Below boardroom level, where they raided the Nou Camp brains trust, the closest City can get to this level of destructive creativity is Silva and Agüero. But to see Milner and Fernando as the two central midfielders in a game of this difficulty is the best indication of the continuing gap between the sides.
With such a deficit, it takes great tactical management or inspirational leadership to nullify superior individual talent. In nine seasons in Spain, Pellegrini managed only four wins against Barcelona. His overall record was played 22, won four, drawn four, lost 14.
Malaga’s shock win over Barca at the weekend (and those casino pics) may have encouraged Pellegrini to believe his guests would be vulnerable. Both events were more likely to heighten their concentration. Before the Malaga upset Barcelona had won their 11 previous fixtures.
City started the second-half with more intent, more counter-attacking thrust. Barcelona responded as they always do, with clock-burning possession, and spurts of activity. City went back to being a tough Premier League team, no longer bamboozled by Catalan artistry. On 67 minutes they unleashed Wilfried Bony, bought for £25 million because Dzeko and Stefan Jovetic had not supported Agüero well enough.
Contrast that emergency spending with the evolution of Barcelona’s forward line. Best player in Argentina, best in Brazil, best in Uruguay. Three ultra-safe bets. At least Agüero is in that class. His brilliant top-corner drive on 69 minutes brought the game back to life.
An impressive counter-surge at 2-0 down displays tenacity in chasing a lost cause. But City, who lost Gaël Clichy to a second yellow card on 73 minutes, want to be at the exalted level where games are dominated, not chased. They are not there yet. Few are, against Suárez, Neymar and Messi.

Shafiul to replace Al-Amin in Bangladesh World Cup squad

Liverpool 2-0 Southampton

Liverpool moved to within two points of a Champions League place by scoring with their first two shots on target at fifth-placed Southampton.
Philippe Coutinho scored with a 25-yard curler in the third minute.
Southampton had two early penalty appeals turned down, as challenges on Filip Djuricic by Emre Can and Joe Allen went unpunished.
Raheem Sterling also had a penalty claim rejected, but made it 2-0 when Matt Targett failed to clear a cross.
Liverpool are the only team not to have lost a Premier League match in 2015 and are well placed to push for a top-four finish in their final 12 matches.
The result saw Brendan Rodgers' side leapfrog Tottenham into sixth and left them three points behind third-placed Arsenal.
They had to ride their luck, though, to hold on to the early lead given to them in spectacular fashion by Coutinho.
The Brazil midfielder gathered Lazar Markovic's pass and hit a third-minute strike that bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.            abd71

Moeen Ali-inspired England beat Scotland

Moeen Ali's century led England to a 119-run victory over Scotland and a first victory of the World Cup.
Moeen scored 128 and shared 172 for the first wicket with the stuttering Ian Bell, who contributed 54.
But, when they were parted, England could only manage 131 runs in the final 20 overs as they posted 303-8.
Still, it was too many for Scotland, who never threatened an upset, despite Kyle Coetzer's 71, and were bowled out for 184, with Steven Finn taking 3-26.
Following heavy defeats against co-hosts Australia and New Zealand, the success in Christchurch provides England with a much-needed morale boost.
However, little can be learned as to whether England are in better shape for the sterner tests to come - starting with Sri Lanka in Wellington on Sunday - given the nature of the opposition.

 scoreboard:

England 303-8 (50 overs): Moeen 128, Bell 54, Davey 4-68
Scotland 184 (42.2 overs): Coetzer 71, Finn 3-26
England won by 119 runs           abd71

we did not come in the World Cup to get 1 point from begging

If the game is not for the storm tomorrow, who won? Scholars are not to be understood that the profits Bangladesh.
If it is very rare for the three points to win the match against Australia, is almost impossible to notice. What is the point of playing it to get worse! This morning at the Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza question arose little catei.
Say to him, to give it one point they did in the World Cup. Mashrafe formal press conference, saying, "We are not looking at that one point. We want to play against Australia. The winner was gone. But the Gabba against Australia will come in every day for a chance to fight. Here would be a good performance against Sri Lanka and New Zealand to get something like this. This game is not as if we would be disappointed, of course. Maybe get a point; But the point is the price! "Therefore, very disappointed, but today, the exercise could not. Indoor is forced by necessity to spend time with their little nets having been "very frustrating. Because we do not know the way to practice. This match is the big match. The practice was necessary. We do not know how to play the match. The rain is not going to assume anything. What game will be over, do not realize that. This is frustrating as well. "In this sort of storm and rain, have pity, they were saying to yourself," It's hard to say now. Today, everyone is better than 0 over Australia. You can not say that anymore, 0 overs tough team and they are not salty. Most important thing is, we do not know how the game will be over. This team can not choose. This is a very difficult situation. "          abd71
