BD nat’l taken hostage by ISIS in Libya

A Bangladeshi national along with eight other foreign ones were taken hostage by members of the Islamic group ISIS from Al-Ghani oil field south of the city Sirte of Libya on Friday. The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli identified the Bangladeshi national as Helal Uddin, hailing from Jamalpur, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Monday.

The incident happened when gunmen invaded the Al-Ghani oil field on Friday killing 11 guards, beheading a number of them before local forces fought back to retake control.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli is trying to find out whereabouts of the abducted Bangladeshi national, and it is also in close contact with National Oil Company (NOC) of Libya and the company concerned, VAOS, where the incident took place.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the incident with the Bangladesh Embassy.
